Erika Clegg, Co-founder of Spring
Spring is the East of England’s leading strategic communications design agency. Described as The Agency For Change, Spring delivers transformational projects at board level for places, organisations and businesses.
In 2016, Spring delivered commercial growth to our clients of well over £49m. We are sponsoring Director of the Year because we know from the inside out the seismic difference that strong direction makes to a business, and want to celebrate some of the truly great directors to be found in our home county.
Our own founders, Erika Clegg and Simon Hazelgrove, still wholly own Spring, and among the 20 “Springers” who work at the agency are experts in brand consultancy, digital marketing, community engagement and multi-channel communications programmes.
The agency’s work encompasses strategic planning, brand positioning, graphic design, digital development, planning consultation, PR, photography and video, illustration, copywriting, research and event management. Spring takes its commitment to Suffolk very seriously and its active CSR programme has seen it donate brands and campaigns to local charities and initiatives including Access, Age UK and
the Flourish rural needs project.
Other CSR focus is on the Springers, who are rewarded with cultural expansion grants, gym sessions and training as well as profit share. Spring’s focus on understanding people – not just its clients, but their customers too – has led to its development of HyperlocalEverywhere, a research and project planning process designed to unearth the real hopes and fears of communities, their influencers and gathering points. Out of this has sprung The HyperlocalEverywhere Network, a nationwide group of regional
communications agencies headed by Spring which has been awarded a place on the Government’s communications roster.
Spring is ranked in the Design Week Top 100, rising by 10 places in 2016, and has received many awards. Recent wins include a Gold for the Moroccan brand at the Transform Awards, where the agency’s work with DanceEast was also awarded a Silver and two Bronzes. Its brand design for Woodbridge’s Unruly Pig was also shortlisted for two separate national design craft awards. Erika is a member of Creative Circle’s Gold Jury for design and sits on the board of the Design Business Association.
